What a help the reviews on this treadmill have been! My husband and I are both very happy with it. It is in fact quiet enough to watch TV or listen to the radio without irritation, and smooth enough to allow reading a book without strain. It feels solid and secure. The grip areas allow users of different heights to be comfortable. The programs are fine, and function smoothly. I particularly like the ability to walk both uphill and downhill. I love it!

I specifically bought a model from Fitness Factory because of the lifetime warranty on all parts. I already owned a Body Solid gym purchaced from Fitness Factory 10 years ago and they have always been great about replacing worn out or broken parts with absolutely no hassle.

The TF3i is a solidy built treadmill with great fit and finish. It's appearance is that of a much more expensive model. This is a model without all the bells and whistles. It has only 4 pre-programed programs and will not store custom programs. It also has a basic control panel without all the advanced graphics the more expensive models have but it is also 25% less in price. The folding feature is great because I have a relatively small room for a gym and it only takes 10 seconds to get it ready to run or fold back up for storage.

The TF3i is extremely smooth and quiet in operation. Set up was easy, taking only about half an hour and having only three components to bolt together and the tools were included. You can forget about following the instructions since they were written in China but thankfully on this one it's straight forward enough that there won't be any guessing and even a novice at assemling such things should have no trouble at all. One thing to remember is that it does weigh 200 lbs and it will take two strong people to carry it to wherever you are setting it up in your house. It's shipped by freight like most of these are which means you will be responsible for getting it from the back of the truck to wherever it's going in your house. In my case the driver offered to help even though I was not paying extra for it and he was not required to.

One day I found out that my husband had inadvertently broken my old Weslo treadmill. Great. He actually "ran" on it. Now what was I supposed to hang my clothes on? After decided to replace it, we visited three local stores: Sports Chalet, Sports Authority and Sears. It's important to physically try out a treadmill before you buy it, and this Esprit ET-8 treadmill was the ONLY one that stood out to me in our price range. It's super quiet, has great cushioning, and can handle my intense strolling as I sip cocktails while watching horror movies. My husband uses it more vigorously, as nature intended. It has fit programs, nice incline, large deck, heart rate monitor, red LCD, magazine rack, and a fancy way of lowering itself (not unlike an electric convertible top). Did I mention how quiet it is? And how cushiony? I honestly think that it's nicer than the bulkier treadmills at the gym, which can tend to be occupied or out of service. By going through Sports Chalet, we were able to pick it up for under $1000 (including tax) on sale. (I recommend getting as much extended warranty as you can afford). At 6'3 270lbs I've found that there are not a lot of consumer treadmills that I can use. The Smooth 9.45st seems to be a winner for me. With a maximum weight of 400lbs and 300lbs on it's fastest speed, the machine was designed to hold up. It does. I can run at 10mph without the belt slipping on me. Anyone with a little weight knows exactly what I'm talking about and how annoying it is.

The deck on this machine is LONG. At 6'3 I've got a long stride. No more running on top of the dashboard with the 9.45st. It feels weird running in the middle of the deck and still having plenty of room available so as not to slide off the back.

Some of the other features include the hydra deck. I'm not 100% sold on it, but I bought the treadmill to run on. The hand sensors (to increase and decrease the speed) are great. Simply hold your hands over the sensors in the arms and the speed will increase and decrease without touching the console. VERY COOL and useful feature. The computer programs are nice too but again I use mine to simply run using the HIIT style of aerobic activity (as advocated by Shawn and Bill Phillips.) The incline works very well too.

This is 99.999% identical to the same incline trainer you will see advertised on infomercials at night. Whats the .001% difference? Its the name on the product sticker. Thats it. Also you will not get the iFit cards that the other one comes with $30 value. It will use those cards if you go buy them. If you have Amazon Prime the shipping is free.

So about this trainer. I have had it for 2 weeks now and use it every day. The deck is very forgiving to my obese frame. I use cross-trainer shoes and the impact on my knees is barely noticeable compared to running on the road. Honestly the most incline I have been able to pull off is roughly 20%. After that it feels as though I am going to slide off the deck, probably wont but it feels that way and this thing goes another 20% incline over that... can you say billy goat?

The hand grips do not register my pulse correctly. It was so off I went to my doctors for an EKG because I thought I had an arrhythmia. Turns out I didnt, so I ended up buying Polar A4 Pulse Heart Rate Monitor Watch which now has me squarely in my peak zone when I am exercising.

When you get it the assembly is pretty straightforward. Keep an eye on the 5foot coated wires, you will need to use them to pull the hand sensors and other cables through the arms.

My biggest gripe is with the shipper. The delivery person wanted to leave it in my driveway or put it in my garage. I needed it in my house because it was going to rain. My back is in pretty bad shape and it took some convincing to get him to at least put it in the doorway for me. They SHOULD have had 2 people to deliver this. I did not expect it to be set up, just put in the room I was going to assemble it in. The crate is massive and I guess it weighs in excess of 300 lbs. DO yourself a favor and disassemble it completely somewhere and carry in the lighter pieces. I was not sure of the amount of effort to do this, and that is why I wanted it brought in my house. Realistically, I could have taken off 50% of the parts and brought them in and saved my back a little. So, just take it apart where they drop it and carry it all in.

Pros:
>> Very comfortable deck
>> Varied and interesting workouts without the iFit cards.
>> Can use iFit cards
>> Fantastic fan that blows directly on your face/neck while exercising

Cons:
<< Because of the degree of incline ability the deck is about 8" off the floor so taller people may need to duck in an 8' ceiling room (dont put this in a finished basement)
<< Speakers are pathetic and can barely be heard over the running motors and fan. Have my iPod Touch cranked to max and its just weak sound.
<< Heavy to move. (put it where it will stay because once assembled its massive)

Overall the cons do not outweigh the pros which are substantial in my opinion.

This is a fantastic exercise machine to use at home, or even in a professional setting (pros may scoff at it though as being gimmicky). Buy this from Amazon you will save a few hundred in shipping alone. If you dont have Amazon Prime, get it for the money you save not paying for shipping elsewhere.

I am sooo glad I got this inexpensive manual treadmill instead of an expensive motorized one. I put it together in about half and hour. Its a little more of a workout than walking on a level surface (you're walking slightly uphill all the time) so be prepared to stretch your calf muscles after using it. I also like how light and portable it is. I can push it out of the way easily when I'm not using it (though folding it up IS a little harder than they claim it is). I can also shift it easily to watch t.v. while I'm working out, or shift it in another direction and look out my picture window instead (you can jog on it, too). It also takes up a lot less floor space than the huge motorized ones. The metal and rubber surface area that you walk on is less stressful to your joints than walking on concrete or asphalt-there's a little bit of 'give' to it. I didn't think I'd use the little computer console, but its kind of fun to see how fast you're walking and how many calories you've burned when your done. I also don't have to keep checking my pedometer to see how far I've gone. The clock is 'off' though, it'll tell you you've walked for five minutes when you've walked only about three minutes. Also, when putting it together, they forgot to include the screws that hold the computer console onto the handlebars. However, when I called them about it, I immediately was on-line with a courteous REAL person, and they mailed the missing screws to me promptly (in about three days). My treadmill came pre-lubricated, but after a couple of weeks of use I noticed it was 'sticking' a little. OK, we've had the unit long enough to give it a proper assessment. (Isn't it annoying when someone reviews their item before they've even taken it out of the box?)
So, the unit has held up well, overall. I am very suspect of the pulse reading circuit. It might be alright for a snapshot, but for accurate heart rates- measure it yourself.
The box arrived quite damaged, but the treadmill was fine.
Consider if you and your spouse will need to carry this unit up stairs to its final destination, because the motor freight company won't. (That was a TRUE workout!)

Horizon Fitness T90 Treadmill Top Quality

I like this treadmill for the most part; the belt is very functional, plus wide enough to be comfortable walking on. The display is good, plus it has a lot of "space" for things like water and phones/remotes to sit on.

The big problem I have with it, is the incline function isn't working. I've used the treadmill about a week, but have not yet contacted the manufacturer (I have been busy).

The treadmill came unassembled, but for the most part, it was not that hard to put together; I did it by myself in a few hours. I will add a minor gripe that one of the bolts doesn't seem to connect the pieces it should for the handlebar, but a second bolt is keeping it in place.

I want to add, that I only use the manual speed setting. I have not yet tried the other programs.

Rating: 4 of 5, is a fairly good estimate of it. It does work very well, but the issues I listed above prevent a perfect rating.

I am definitely convinced this product was worth the money - and I've only used it once so far! Assembly wasn't too difficult, and I didn't have trouble with the belt. I hopped on and at the 450 step mark I was huffing and puffing! My legs (which are very much attuned to walking on level ground) started to burn! I will be using this 5 days a week 10,000 steps per day. My only complaints are trivial ones - I detached the little digital monitor because it made a loud clicking racket. I have a cheap pedometer which I use in lieu of the device, so detaching it was not detrimental to my work out at all. I also like to swing my arms when I walk, but with this treadmill you will certainly need to hold onto the bars. As you'll see, I found some problems, but nearly all of them would be fixed with a rewrite of some of the direction manual, which is inaccurate in parts. Other negatives are minor: Three of the preset courses could be divided in two without a problem, as far as I can see. The on/off switch is inconveniently located. The preset courses should be displayed on the machine for ease of use. In general, however, I think it's a great machine. Whisper quiet (as these things go; I have access to another treadmill which is much, much louder than this one) and solid-feeling, with a long walking deck and some thoughtful features. Once you get past the problems I've noted below with the instruction manual, the treadmill is easy to use. Navigating the menus is for the most part intuitive. And it's even easier to use if you don't want to fool with any of the preset courses. Press the "quick start" button and you'll be taking a walk in seconds: you can adjust the speed and incline as you go. I'm really loving it.

Immediately below is a summary of the good and the bad. Below that find my in-depth discussion. I've also uploaded two charts to the customer images associated with this product. These are explained below.

THINGS TO LOVE ABOUT THIS MACHINE

* It's *very* quiet.
* Hydraulic lift for ease in unfolding.
* Easy setup.
* Lots of different options for preset courses, including target heart rate programs and two custom programs.
* Built-in fan.
* Two means of monitoring heart-rate: comes with a chest strap heart monitor!

THINGS THAT COULD BE IMPROVED

* The presentation of the preset courses in the directions is inaccurate and misleading.
* The presentation of the preset courses in the directions is confusing.
* The preset courses should be printed (correctly) on the machine. That would be more helpful than the included speed/pace chart.
* The on/off switch is inconvenient for regular access.

SETUP AND NOISE

This is a heavy piece of equipment. The hardest part of getting the thing set up will be manhandling it into position. It'll help if you have some burly men at your disposal, or if you are a burly man yourself. Once you have the machine in place, actually putting the pieces together is a snap. I didn't time myself but it probably took about 20-30 minutes. There are a handful of parts to be screwed in. All necessary tools are provided, and the directions are very good--with one odd exception. Once you're finished putting the treadmill together according to the directions, you'll find yourself with a leftover piece, a piece of contoured gray plastic about two feet long and a few inches wide. There's no word in the directions about where this goes, but it fits at the back of the machine, underneath the belt (see my video). You'll see four screws in place there for attaching the piece of plastic. I attached it, but I wound up taking it off again because it scraped against the belt and made a lot of noise.

Similarly, you may find that the plastic over the motor in the front can scrape a bit on the belt and be noisy. If it does, just adjust the plastic a little. When all is properly situated, the machine is very quiet. If there's an unpleasant noise, something's probably scraping.

PROFILE PROGRAMS

The Schwinn 860 offers 9 preset courses, Course 1-3, Circuit 1-3, and Pursuit 1-3. (In this review, I'll capitalize Course when I'm referring to a preset course, but leave the word in lower case when I'm using it as a generic noun.) It's not obvious to me why the courses are distinguished by different titles in this way rather than being called Course 1-9, for example, but at any rate the different preset courses offer nine different patterns of activity (intensity fluctuating quickly or building slowly, etc.) The user can make adjustments to the speed or incline to be used during the workout while selecting their course, and during the course as well manual adjustments can be made.

There are a couple of issues with the presentation of the course information in the direction manual. Most importantly, the course information as it appears in the book is incorrect and/or misleading in a number of places:

The descriptions for each of the nine courses state that the user can set the "maximum and minimum" speed or incline (depending on the course). This is not correct. In each case you can set the MAXIMUM speed or incline, but not the minimum. The minimum follows whatever is set for the maximum. For example, if in Course 1 you select a maximum speed of 4.5 mph, the minimum speed will automatically be 1.5 mph. If the maximum speed selected is 5 mph, then the minimum will be 2 mph, and so on. The minimum speed can be adjusted manually while you're using the machine, but not during the course selection.

The directions for Course 3 and Circuit 3 both read: "You set the maximum and minimum speed and incline, and the treadmill adjusts as shown in these profiles." (As explained above, however, you can in fact only set the maximum figure, not the minimum.) We are then shown two bar graphs. The first shows the speed pattern for the course, the second the incline pattern. One assumes, reading it, that the speed and incline will both adjust according to these patterns during the course. But that's not how it works. Unless I'm missing something--and I don't think I am--you can set the maximum speed for the course OR the maximum incline, but not both. And in fact, when you're navigating the menus on the machine, that's the choice you're given: the monitor prompt reads "Select speed or incline." If you select speed and input your maximum, there's no option given for then also setting incline. If you select incline, there's no option given for then entering speed. Essentially, and confusingly, Course 3 and Circuit 3 offer two further courses each, one with adjustable speed and one with adjustable incline.

The information provided for Pursuit #3 is incorrect in the book. As it stands, the directions read, "You set the maximum and minimum incline, and the treadmill adjusts as shown in this profile. You can manually adjust the speed." We are then given one bar graph, showing the incline pattern for that course. As we saw above, one can in fact only set the maximum incline for this course, not the minimum. But also, Pursuit 3 (just like Course 3 and Circuit 3) should read that you can set the maximum speed OR incline. And there should be another bar graph given for the speed pattern of the course. (See the chart I uploaded to the customer images associated with this product.)

So much for errors. But it's a little hard to grasp the differences among the preset courses as they're laid out in the book--even assuming that the information were correct. For this reason I created for myself a chart that displays the information in a small, more easily (I think) understood format. I've actually created two charts: one showing how the information is presented in the book; the other how I think it should be presented in accordance with my above observations. (As far as I can see, you can always make manual adjustments during a course, so I've removed information about manual settings from my revised chart.) If anyone would like to use either chart, I've uploaded them to the customer images associated with this product. Once printed out, the chart can be taped onto the machine for easy reference. I taped mine over the speed/pace chart on the right of the machine, which doesn't add information valuable to the user anyway. (It would have been nice to have this course information printed on the machine itself somewhere. I know that at least some other treadmills do this.)

Not only would it be nice to have the (corrected) course diagrams printed on the treadmill. It would also be great if the courses could be selected more easily than through the courses/profile menu. Ideally, there could be course preset buttons in addition to or instead of speed or incline preset buttons.

READY MODE

When you're finished with a workout and you remove the magnetic safety key from its holder, the machine returns to "ready mode." That means that the monitor's lights are on and it's waiting for you to insert the key again. It stays like this apparently forever, until you turn the machine off with the on/off switch at the front of the machine, near the floor. This strikes me as odd. Are we intended to leave it on indefinitely? It may not use much energy, but it must use some, so I'd prefer to turn the thing off for real after every workout. I've got my machine positioned so that getting to the on/off switch isn't a big problem, though it's certainly not the handiest place to access it. But I can imagine some set-ups in which it wouldn't be so easy to get to the switch. This seems like a poor design element to me.

FOLDING THE MACHINE

The treadmill can be easily folded up for storage or moving or to vacuum under it. You just lift up the walking deck until it clicks into place. But what's delightful is that when you unfold it, you don't have to support its weight and put it down on the floor again. There's a hydraulic lift that eases the deck to the floor. Very nice feature.

MONITORING HEART RATE

There are two ways to monitor your heart rate with the machine. There are sensors built into the handles. These detect your pulse, which shows up in the monitor. Alternatively, you can wear the chest strap heart monitor that comes with the machine. Provided that you're wearing it correctly and the electrodes are receiving data, your heart rate will show up on the monitor. You may want this for your own information or because you're using one of the heart rate control programs, which allow you to set a target heart goal for your workout. (As you exercise, the incline and speed adjust automatically to keep your pulse in the target area. In my experience using the chest sensor with a target heart rate program, it works quite smoothly.) Certainly, if you want to monitor your heart rate throughout your workout, you'll want to use the chest strap: hanging onto the handlebars is okay for the occasional reading, but you won't want to hold it the whole time.

BUILT-IN FAN

This is a sweet feature: a two-speed fan built into the controls. You can direct the air where you want it with a horizontal lever.

BODY MASS INDEX PROGRAM

According to the directions, there's a BMI program on the machine that will calculate your BMI from the height and weight values you've entered into your user profile. I haven't been able to find this BMI program on the machine. On the other hand, it seems to be completely unnecessary, as one can easily calculate one's BMI using online calculators, for example.

MISCELLANEOUS ISSUES

This isn't a big deal, but reading this may save you a little time. The serial number for the machine is on the front, near the cord, not on the back of the machine, as indicated in a diagram in the direction manual.

There's a typo on a prominent label on the machine. It reads "MAX INCINE 12%" rather than "MAX INCLINE 12%."

The treadmill works well enough, however, it arrived in a very large, heavy box that I had to drag through my house and assemble. The packaging wasn't very good because the front of the base of the treadmill was broken where the UPS driver dropped it and the screws were scattered throughout the box. It was very difficult to assemble and I have experience assembling all kinds of things but this takes the cake. In the end though, the treadmill works fine.

To start, I echo another reviewer in saying that my treadmill was received in bad shape as the base frame and wheels had burst completely through the bottom of the cardboard box. I also discovered evidence of discoloration on the plastic side panels that are attached to the control panel. My best guess is it was subjected to a lot of weight being stacked on it as it traveled first by airline and then delivered by semi truck via a freight company. There was no use blaming either company as they would just deny everything but considering two of three reviewers report delivery problems, this suggests Nautilus may have a problem with their packaging. (My money's on the airline trashing it). Fortunately, aside from some scuffs and a little pressure discoloration on the side panels, the treadmill seems okay.

Assembly is quite easy but because the product is heavy you will likely need assistance. You simply lift the pre-assembled control panel straight up and screw in a nut and bolt on each side with the provided hardware. After that, bend the handlegrips toward you and screw them in. Finally, attach the two side panels to each side of the control panel and you're ready to go. I found the left side was easy to screw everything into while the right side of the machine I wasn't able to screw in the parts without a lot of exertion. I most likely stripped some threads to get the screws tightened in so I wonder if there may be some quality issues in the manufacturing process. Perhaps it was the first day on the job for one of the people drilling holes in the frame. I also found that the wheels didn't roll but that may have been due to the delivery problems.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before assembly be sure you place the box in the room you ultimately wish to use your treadmill in. Even when folded up, the machine is 32 inches wide; larger than many doorways.

This treadmill is my first but I have used many others at membership gyms and at friends' houses. Comparing this treadmill to others, the first thing that comes to mind is, at a whopping 72 inches in length with 54 inches of space to walk or run on, this treadmill is much longer than the residential treadmills I usually see. The second thing I noticed was I was scared to death of pulling this 200+ lb machine around with the bed tilted up. I later figured out they have a tiny shock absorber to help slow things down when you're bringing the treadmill bed back down to the floor. Even with the shock absorber, don't let go of the bed as it's dropping as it will still hit the floor with a loud thunk (and may even put a hole in it.) I knocked off a star because Nautilus gives you only five feet of electric cord for a three foot wide machine. The plug is located almost on the right edge of the machine, meaning if your electric plugs are located to the left, you must place the treadmill within two feet of the electric plug. To make matters worse, the instructions specifically say you can't use an extension cord or surge protector. Nautilus needs to give residential customers a longer cord. I also found it odd that we have to go to the front of the machine, to a spot next to where the electric cord plugs in, to turn the machine on and off. There is no power button on the control panel and it doesn't appear to shut down during inactivity. Both of those should be fixed to make the treadmill more energy efficient. I was also upset to read that Nautilus wants us to lubricate the machine with 100% silicone lubricant before use. If this is as important as the instruction book indicates, then a small amount should be provided as most households don't have this lying around (WD-40 isn't an acceptable substitute). In fact, the only thing I could find at a large hardware chain was a can of Dupont Teflon/Silicone lubricant. Fortunately, a call to Nautilus confirmed this was okay to use. I still needed some direction on how much to use as the instructions were sparse. According to customer service at Nautilus, we should spray a line across the underside of the belt, roll the belt halfway around manually, then do it again. Until Nautilus starts providing lubricant with this treadmill, I suggest including LifeSpan Fitness 100% Silicone Treadmill Belt Lubricant in your order.

In comparison to other treadmills, there is none of the belt slippage as you run or walk in forward motion. In fact, this is the only treadmill I have used that doesn't have this annoying problem. The motor is quite powerful and fast too. The display shows you the time you have been running, the distance (in km or mph) you ran, and the estimated calories you have burned (always so little!) My favorite display flips between the mph you are running and how long it will take you to run a full mile. Unless you can run a mile in less than five minutes I see little reason to upgrade to the more expensive T516. This bed is rated to support 350 lbs of weight, and given the strength of the frame I think the number is conservative, so it should be able to hold everyone except South Carolinians. I found the walking belt to be centered perfectly but you can adjust the tension or move the belt to the left or right using an included hex key. I did find a problem with the plastic rails on each side of the bed. Nautilus wants us to stand on these when we start the treadmill, however I notice noise coming from them as if they are scraping the belt or bed. The noise stops once we move from the rails on to the walking belt itself.

Workouts consist of either manual or pre-programmed workout modes (i.e. climbing a hill, fast and slow intervals, a heart rate control program, or a custom value for time, speed, and incline that you can program yourself.) The T516 model gives you an extra of each of these programs (three instead of two.) The program features are all nice, but frankly I enjoy the manual mode the best because we have the incline level adjustment (0-12 degrees) using an up/down switch on the left handlebar and the speed control (0-12mph) using a switch on the right handlebar. The grips also include a metal heart rate monitor but I'm knocking off a star because I didn't find these to be very accurate; either that or my heart rate instantly jumps from 85 to 120 then back again. I think it's important people know their heart-rate accurately or they could easily over-exert themselves on a treadmill this powerful. The Polar brand chest strap heart rate monitor seems accurate and it works as long as you wet the electrodes first and strap it to your bare skin. Because of the yuck factor of the entire family using, and sweating on one Polar monitor, it could be a nice feature to include one or two more to make the treadmill more family friendly.

Customer service at Nautilus was very responsive and Courtney in particular was very friendly in spite of being bombarded with my questions. The so-called 10 year warranty is a little disingenuous because items defined as wear items (grips, foam, rubber, and plastic parts) have only a 90-day warranty and the belt has only a year warranty. In my opinion, anyone dropping this kind of money on a treadmill should have at least a one year on everything. Still, even the sweatiest of South Carolinians shouldn't be able to wear through the foam handlegrips. Maybe.

As I was reviewing everything, I couldn't help but think that this was a gymnasium strength treadmill that Nautilus suddenly decided to offer to residents without taking into consideration the special needs residential users have. Considering Nautilus also owns the famous Bowflex home gyms it seems odd that they haven't thought things through a little more. I'd like to give them high marks for the machine's strength, steel frame, and overall toughness but the little things like the power cord, the side rails, the metal heart rate monitors, and the disingenuous warranty make me hesitate a little. Above all, the treadmill packaging must be upgraded so it's idiot proof or Nautilus will be fielding a lot of calls from upset customers. I give them a solid three stars.

I have owned this treadmill for two months and love it. I relied on ratings for this treadmill and several others in the price range from Amazon and several other on-line sites before making a decision between this and another treadmill. I knew I wanted to keep the purchase to $1,000 or less.

So far, I am very happy with it! It is easy to use, quiet in comparison to treadmills at the gym, comfortable. It's a bit smaller than a treadmill you'd see at the gym, but there is plenty of room both width- and length-wise.

I ordered direct from the company and paid the extra set-up fee. I knew I couldn't lift it no matter where they set it in the room in that box to move it out of the box and set it up on my own, so it was definitely worth it for me. It took the delivery company (two people for most of the time, then later one person) about an hour and forty minutes to set it up. It was clear that he was just following the written instructions, without any experience, and both delivery people seemed a little nervous about the project. However, delivery was smooth and everything was set up fine and works well.

Others have commented on here about the sound system. I didn't expect anything fancy, but it works very well for what I expected and need. I plug in a portable dvd player to the sound system and it is plenty loud. Music works well, too.

The fan isn't really very strong, but it helps mildly. I find another fan is necessary to actually keep me cool if I'm doing anything but a slow walk.

I use it to walk fast on an incline, am not a runner, and I was used to holding the bars up front on the gym treadmills when I was on a higher speed setting. That's not really possible on this treadmill. The bars are too low and too close to the front. The result is one's feet hitting the front of the machine repeatedly. However, the side bars work just fine as a replacement if you do like to hold on to something while walking. I have found, too, that most of the time not holding onto anything works just fine on this treadmill.

The inclines and the workouts are comparable to a gym, though the pre-set buttons jump from 2 to 4, to 6 and so - on. You have to use different up/down buttons to get finer differences in between. It takes a bit to get used to, but after a few workouts it is pretty comfortable.

Mine also came with a heart monitor, though I haven't used it yet.

I also used the idea another person mentioned - to go to a Fleet Farm type of store and buy a mat used in a horse or cow stall to put under the treadmill. It was cheaper than comparable mats of the same thickness I'd seen online (about $40). It works very well.

I've noticed the beginning of a slight clunking sound as the incline is going up or down in the past week, but it doesn't appear to be affecting performance at all yet. I haven't yet looked in the manual to see whether I might be able to adjust something to remedy this.

Overall, I am really happy with the treadmill. I use it every day and do not have anything but good things to say about its performance.

I was hesitant to purchase this item based on the previous comments made. I only look at the 3 or lower stars, then you know what to expect in the worst case. I also read a few other products to gauge what issues plague manual treadmills. So far, I haven't seen many of these issues.

A little background, I'm 5'8" and 218 lbs and out of shape. I'm used to walking on flat surfaces with a little bit of a slope. I bought the treadmill to get in shape for hiking in the mountains. I've had the treadmill for 6 days and have averaged about 30 minutes (accumulated) a day.

Based on other reviews, I decided to get the treadmill lubricant. I'm glad I did. The belt was jerky and definately needed lubricant. The manual says to use a silicone lubricant or WD-40, so you may want to save your money there. It took a bit of work to get the belt to get rid of the stick. You need to lift up the sides of the belt and spray underneath. Once it was slick enough, everything went pretty smoothly.

After getting everything set up and running, I took it for a test drive. First, the slope is pretty steep for a first time user, such as myself. The slope is 6" from back to front. I can do a normal 16 minute outside mile without breaking much of a sweat. I do a 30 minute mile according to the computer (which I haven't tested, but I believe it to be wrong).

I'll have to say that I can't see how someone can jog on this machine. When I bring my back foot up, I usually get a burst of speed. This makes me think that I'd likely fall face first onto the treadmill. I've only used a treadmill once before (powered), but I don't get the same security on this machine.

There are two major complaints that I have. First, the handles are too low. I usually walk in the 1/4 to 3/4 zone of the treadmill. I have my arms extended downward and don't have a very good grip on the handles. There should be some kind of handle that comes upward to properly hold onto. Kind of like the "bike horn handles" you can attach to a bicycle ([...]). I don't know if something like this would work, but it's better than the current setup.

I don't particularly like the computer that comes with it. The computer does have Miles/Kilometers, Calories, Distance, M/Km per hour and a timer (I like that the timer stops a few seconds after you do). However, like I said before, I don't know if it is right. Also, the timer only goes to 99:59.

I've seen where the reports of the tread rolling off to the side come in. I use the treadmill barefoot, so this may be a factor. Also, weight may be a factor (recomended weight is less than 250 lbs). When I do notice the rolling effect, it's usually when I'm tired and I'm favoring one side (leaning, checking the computer, holding on with one hand for a long time, etc). As a result, my feet tend to go over the center and are pushing at an angle. This is where I see the rolling issue. However, correcting the issue is to just straighten up and push in the other direction while moving. The front roller is slightly threaded in different directions on both sides to help compensate for this. However, I've never seen an issue when walking over the center.

Pros:
Compact footprint. I like the fact that I can fold it up and put it in an unused closet.
Easy setup. Only 9 screws and the "tools" come with. The computer mount is less than desireable.
Consistent after lubricating.

Cons:
Handlebars could be better.
Unverified belief the computer is wrong.

Overally, pretty good for a starter. If you're planning on something more serious, this may not be for you. Called them to make sure it was going to arrive during the big snowstorm storm that day in the 12-5pm slot...they said it may be a bit late and even called to say it would be there at 5:30PM and we all waited for it longingly looking out the picture window Yes, they arrived at 5:30pm and manhandled the truck into the driveway backwards to my open garage while his sidekick surfed on the loading lift of the truck ....almost falling off. I slipped them a $20 - he barked 'Give it to the kid' so they would deliver it over the 'threshhold' into my basement which they did.

I went up to watch tv and my wife had it assembled in 2 hours without me....she said it would have taken longer had I been there helping. I did help actually with one piece fitting it in a bit.....not sure why it was a bit tight but we got it together.

This thing is a monster as it weighs....well, close to my weight. It is not junk as it feels top flight and looks it! I don't plan to move it at all. Use it every day now and already can feel and see the difference after 2 months!! The programs are a but much for me so far so I just set lift and speed as I need to in the 20 minute general program. Eventually, I hope to use the programs as there are a lot of them. I like how it tells you miles and calories burned. I like to watch the display changing...........beats watching an EKG in a hospital bed!

The fan at highest setting is too weak for me and you can't aim the direction so only benefits me much, as I'm tall, if I'm slumped over gasping for air.....which is a lot of the time.

If I could get the heart monitor around me (my wife says 'Don't even try'), I would use it. Maybe in a few more months.

Well, this is a great unit especially here in central NH where 8 months of the year are inhospitable unless you're Yukon 'Cornelius' Jack! Don't know why I'm up here, but I know I'll live long with my BOWFLEX SERIES 7.

He then said that if I wanted it brought somewhere else, I needed to pay extra and make those arrangements ahead of time.

It got a little ugly at that point and told them that their delivery slip said nothing about which threshold to bring it to. So I gave them the choice of bringing it to the threshold of my back door or loading it back up on the truck. They reluctantly agreed to bring it to the back door.

After they left, I realized how heavy this thing really is. I estimated over 300 lbs. It took all I could muster to get the box over the sliding door track and inside the house. Even if you broke down the box and carried the pieces in one by one, the treadmill/motor portion of the device is all one piece and is easily 200 lbs. The only other pieces are the console and support arms which weigh very little by themselves.

I ended up straining my back in the process of bringing it in. I am most angry at Amazon for not making it clear that the delivery was only to the door, not inside. Also, Amazon did not offer any other shipping options at the time of the order.

I received my Bowflex 7 Series in two weeks, which was on the early end of the 10 day window. The box was beat to shreds. I was really surprised that the treadmill only suffered small scratches between the "incline" and "speed" displays. I was amazed that the treadmill even worked. I'm watching for possible future problems that may be a result of the extremely destructive delivery process. For instance, sometimes when I start it up, an odd chirping (like a bird) sound comes from under the motor cover. It eventually goes away as I walk.

The treadmill itself is a fine piece of mechanical engineering. I love working out on it (I'm a walker, not a jogger), BUT WATCH OUT FOR THE STATIC ELECTRICITY SHOCKS. They suggested a mat (which I have) or spraying the track with a Downy Fabric Softener/water solution (one part/ten parts, respectively). My concern with the solution is Downy is slippery and water evaporates, so when the water dries up I'm left with a slippery Downy track. If I slip and break my knee cap, who's going to pay the medical bills...Nautilus??? So far I'm putting up with the shocks, looking for a static strap to ground myself, and wondering how long I can endure. The only reason I rate this fine machine a 3-star is because of the annoying, agonizing shocks. I've been on treadmills in gyms all over the world (Air Force), even had one in the exact place where my Bowflex now stands, and I've never been shocked by static electricity while exercising. Bowflex/Nautilus ought to fix this, ASAP.

First, there were parts missing, which,when we called, they said they would send the washers out and that we couldn't pick them up at any hardware. There is an error in the manual about the assembling instructions where they show the bag of screws #1 as different from the ones included. I recently purchased a Bowflex Series 7 Treadmill. It was delivered partially assembled, no surprise there, but, when I unpacked it and went to move the very heavy base assembly to my exercise room I ran into trouble. The treadmill supposedly could be folded and then tilted and rolled on a set of wheels provided for that purpose. Sounds rather simple but I discovered that mine would not fold. Pressing the release bar did not release the catch. I carefully reviewed the manual and found that the treadmill had to be reset to the zero degree elevation point before it could be folded. In looking at the unpacked but as yet unassembled treadmill, I concluded that it came set for zero degrees of elevation. After several unsuccessful attempts to fold it I decide to call Bowflex. They advised that before the treadmill could be folded, a calibration had to be run. This calibration is described in the manual but nowhere does it mention that one must run a calibration cycle before the treadmill can be folded. After moving the various parts to my exercise room and assembling the treadmill I ran a calibration cycle. And, sure enough, I could then successfully fold and unfold the treadmill.

The assembly instructions were quite clear and made the assembly job relatively uneventful. Other than the above little problem, I have been very satisfied with the performance. WE LIKE THE TREADMILL, but be careful about using the recommended assemby service company Jez Inc. Assembly by professionals is strongly recommended unless you have experience and a strong helper!!!

We don't like to use our credit cards over the phone (the only way you can pay Jez Inc. with credit card) so we opted to send check (priority mail) they promised to contact us when payment was recieved to make appointment-NO CONTACT!
Then they promised to call when check cleared-NO CALL, SO WE CALLED THEM AGAIN AFTER WAITING SEVERAL DAYS!
Then they promised to have their local rep call us right away and to email us the contact info for the local rep.-NO CALL FROM A "LOCAL REP" AND NO CONTACT INFO SENT!! When we called back a few days later to ask for the contact info, we were told it is against their policy to release this info!!!
Then we were told that the local rep would contact us within 48 hrs, 4 days later we got a call from someone located about 70 miles from us who although had never assembled our type of treadmill, promised to call us back that evening to confirm an appt. for the following Thursday. Four days later (the following SAT) still no call.
We finally started calling local sports equipment stores (The Sports Authority told us that they had about 16 local customers who had paid Jez Inc. for delivery and assembly with the same results, none!), we were referred to Sear's sports dept. who were on the job and helpful even though we didn't purchase our treadmill from them. (RARE SERVICE THESE DAYS, BUT WE ARE TELLING EVERYONE WE TALK TO ABOUT SEAR'S WILLINGNESS TO HELP EVEN THOUGH WE BOUGHT OUR PRODUCT SOMEWHERE ELSE) Sears passed us along to their assemblers/installers (even got the contact info!!! )
We called had an appointment for the next day, they showed up on time, and their fees were 25% less than JEZ Inc.

My wife and I are real happy with our Treadmill purchase. I was looking for a treadmill that I could jog on while my wife was looking for one for walking during the wintertime.

We researched a number of treadmills, features, prices, etc. and came to the conculsion that the Bowflex 7 was the best fit for us. It was the best priced product with a 3 hp motor, a long bed for running, a wide tread, and the ability to fold up. Some of the other products we reviewed were higher priced and had some fancier features but we didn't need them. We ended up buying this treadmill and a small LCD tv for our workout room for the same price as the other models we were choosing from and feel we got exactly what we were looking for.

I spent a lot of time comparing the different price levels and features of basic home treadmills. This was one of the lowest priced powered treadmills I found, yet it had all of the features I decided were necessary: 1-10 mph, 1-10% automatic incline, several preset workout functions, heart rate monitor, several display options, emergency shut off.

The Good:
-Compared to other treadmills with the same features, the price is very low.
-I've had the treadmill for about a month now and I'm very satisfied. It has held up well.
-It's compact, folds up, looks nice.
-Not too noisy.

The Bad:
-So far, the worst thing about this treadmill was the assembly. It was a long and frustrating process.
-The weight limit is only 250 pounds (fine for me, but my husband is pushing it) - not a professional treadmill you'd put in a gym.
